The Reynisdrangar sea stacks are the dramatic basalt pillars you see rising from the North Atlantic. Reaching heights of up to 66 meters, these geological formations are the eroded remnants of the mountain Reynisfjall. Over centuries, the relentless power of the ocean wore away the softer surrounding rock, leaving only these dense volcanic cores behind. According to local folklore, the stacks were once trolls who were caught by the dawn's light while attempting to pull a three-masted ship to shore, instantly turning into stone. Today, they serve as vital nesting grounds for Atlantic puffins.
