The Gate of Ice and Snow Memorial

氷雪の門は、樺太で亡くなった人々を慰めるため1963年に建立された稚内公園を代表する慰霊モニュメントです。近くには、終戦直後の樺太で殉職した9人の女性電話交換手を悼む「九人の乙女の碑」や、昭和天皇・香淳皇后の御製・御歌を刻んだ行幸啓記念碑も建てられており、平和への祈りと歴史を今に伝えています。 The Gate of Ice and Snow Memorial is one of the most iconic memorials in Wakkanai Park. Built in 1963, it honors the people of Karafuto (Sakhalin) and preserves memories of their homeland. Nearby are the Monument to the Nine Maidens, dedicated to nine female telephone operators who remained at their posts until the very end and lost their lives while carrying out their duties, and the Imperial Visit Memorial Monument, which bears poems composed by Emperor Shōwa and Empress Kōjun. Together, these monuments preserve the history of the region and convey a lasting message of peace.
