Chausuyama Kofun is a keyhole-shaped tumulus built between the end of the 4th century and the beginning of the 5th century. With a total length of about 90 meters, it is the second largest in Yamaguchi Prefecture after the Shiratori Kofun in Hirao Town. This ancient tomb was discovered by chance by two local boys in 1892. Among the artifacts excavated at that time was a single-headed, double-barreled monster mirror (large mirror) with a diameter of 44.8 cm, the largest mirror excavated from an ancient tomb in Japan. Prior to the development work, excavation surveys were carried out from 1991 onwards, resulting in various discoveries, including the shape and size of the tumulus, the type and number of haniwa clay figures, the structure of the stone chamber (where the lord of the tumulus was buried), and grave goods.
