This is the main hall of the Shingon sect's Fudoin temple on the outskirts of Hiroshima city, but was relocated from Yamaguchi by Ankokuji Ekei during the Tensho era. It was originally the Buddha hall of the Zen temple Kosekiji, which was founded by the Sengoku daimyo Ouchi Yoshitaka, and an inscription on the ceiling indicates that it was built in Tenbun 9 (1540). It is the largest Zen Buddhist temple in the Middle Ages, and its structural details are typical of Zen Buddhism. The interior, consisting of a space for the principal image and a worship space, is reminiscent of the lost medieval Gozan Buddha halls.
