Villa Frere is on the Pieta waterfront in Malta. In the 1820s it was owned by John Hookham Frere and his wife. They converted the slopes behind the villa into a fine Neoclassical English landscape garden. After much restoration work by 'The Friends of Villa Frere' much of the garden has been restored or re-imagined into a pleasant set of intimate spaces. This area is known as the 'Sunken garden'.
